Practicum by Chuck Passaro

These “shop notes” were used by the students taking my ship model class, in which they build the Model Shipways Kit for the Phantom. This 40 page companion guide includes four sections saved in PDF format. (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view these files and is available free for download)

Section 1: Building the hull
Everything you need to know from shaping and carving the solid basswood hull , copper sheathing, to applying the decking.
Section 2: Completing the Hull
Techniques are described for making the companionways, hatches and other deck furniture and fittings.
Section 3: Masts and rigging
Describes these processes with step-by step-details, countless color photos show you each and every line rigged on the model.
Section 4: Finish it up!
Add all of those finishing touches while the last rigging steps are also described. Flags have been created to scale and can be printed and added to your model.

With an average of three color photos per page, these shop notes provide you with crystal clear close ups from all angles. It is especially written for those of you who may be building your first solid hull model from a kit. As the kit-supplied instructions only devote 8 pages to the building process, this companion will fill all of the gaps while teaching you how to develop effective and efficient model building skills

Many thanks to Chuck for this wonderful submission. Please discuss this build within our Scratchbuild forum.
